KNOLL 1966 LOUNGE CHAIR

Richard Schultz

In the late 1950s, Richard Schultz received a package of rusted bolts from Florence Knoll, tasked with designing elegant outdoor furniture capable of withstanding corrosive sea air and seasonal weather. Introduced in March 1966 as the Leisure Collection, now known as the 1966 Collection, Schultz described it as “a breath of fresh air” for modernists, envisioning chairs that allowed wind, sun, and rain to pass freely while still offering comfort. These chairs continue to embody that philosophy today, combining minimalist aesthetics with functional outdoor performance.
