The story begins in the late 1950s, when Florence Knoll mailed Schultz an envelope filled with rusted bolts from her Florida home, challenging him to create outdoor furniture that could endure corrosive sea air. The result, introduced in March 1966 as the Leisure Collection—now known as the 1966 Collection—was described by Schultz as “a breath of fresh air” for modernists. With its durable powder-coated finish and porcelain enamel steel tabletop, it continues to embody modern elegance, durability, and timeless appeal.

By collaborating with some of the most famous designers of the 20th century, such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Eero Saarinen, Knoll created iconic pieces that combine aesthetics, functionality, and comfort. Today, the brand continues to offer sophisticated furniture solutions, from seating to tables, that represent the evolution of contemporary design.
