Giò Ponti

In 1938, Gio Ponti designed the entire Montecatini building in Largo Donegani, Milan, including the architecture and furniture, such as desks, lamps, wardrobes, and the Montecatini chair. In collaboration with Ponti's heirs, Molteni&C has reissued the Montecatini D.235.1 chair in its original form, made entirely of aluminum, as part of the Gio Ponti Collection.

Description

The D.235.1 chair, designed by Gio Ponti in 1938, is entirely made of polished aluminum. The structure consists of a bent tubular extruded aluminum frame, finished with a glossy surface obtained through a mechanical brushing process. The seat and backrest are made of stamped aluminum, also finished with a glossy surface through the same brushing process. The feet are made of plastic material. The chair, available upon request for orders of a minimum lot of 100 pieces, has the following dimensions: height 86.6 cm, width 51.6 cm, depth 50.7 cm, and foot height of 44.6 cm.

The brand is distinguished by innovative design, continuous research, and the adoption of advanced production techniques, supplying furnishings for museums, hotels, restaurants, and cruise ships, with collaborations from renowned designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Rodolfo Dordoni, Jean Nouvel, and Hannes Wettstein. Molteni&C received the prestigious Compasso d'Oro career award in 1994 and 2020, awarded by ADI (Association for Industrial Design). Since 2012, in collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives and under the artistic direction of Studio Cerri & Associati, it has exclusively reissued several iconic pieces by Gio Ponti, intended for private residences, special projects, or limited editions, faithfully respecting the original designs.
