Gio Ponti

Designed in 1953, the D.153.1 armchair is part of the furnishings in Gio Ponti's private residence on Via Dezza in Milan. The frame is made of satin brass, and the upholstery is available in either bicolored leather or the “Punteggiato” Rubelli fabric. The fabric, designed by Ponti in 1934, reinterprets the centuries-old velvet technique with contemporary patterns, such as the tightly spaced sequences of staggered dots in graduated colors.

Description

The D.153.1 armchair, designed in 1953, is distinguished by its satin brass frame, with upholstery available in bicolored leather or the "Punteggiato" velvet, in shades from the Molteni collection. The bicolored leather is offered in various combinations, such as white with blue, off-white with sand, and dove grey with dark brown. The solid fir wood frame is padded with polyurethane at varying densities and covered in paired velvet. The armrests, also made of solid fir wood, are padded with polyurethane and covered in velvet. The legs, made of welded steel, are finished in satin brass, and the feet are made of non-slip plastic material.

With a width of 80 cm, a depth of 77 cm, and a height of 103 cm, the armchair has a seat height of 49 cm and an armrest height of 35 cm.

The brand is distinguished by innovative design, continuous research, and the adoption of advanced production techniques, supplying furnishings for museums, hotels, restaurants, and cruise ships, with collaborations from renowned designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Rodolfo Dordoni, Jean Nouvel, and Hannes Wettstein. Molteni&C received the prestigious Compasso d'Oro career award in 1994 and 2020, awarded by ADI (Association for Industrial Design). Since 2012, in collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives and under the artistic direction of Studio Cerri & Associati, it has exclusively reissued several iconic pieces by Gio Ponti, intended for private residences, special projects, or limited editions, faithfully respecting the original designs.
