MHC.2 is the reissue of the bookshelf prototype designed by Yasuhiko Itoh in 1959, an iconic piece awarded at the 3rd edition of the Selettiva di Cantù. Made of bentwood, an innovative technique for the time, it stands out for its elegance and refinement. After an initial limited edition of 100 numbered pieces, it is now available in a non-numbered version, featuring a bentwood structure with a walnut finish.

Description

MHC.2 is entirely made of bentwood with a walnut canaletto veneer, a material that enhances the craftsmanship and sophisticated construction of the bookshelf. The module and base are composed of slats obtained from molded bent plywood, with a core of poplar wood veneer (Populus alba) and walnut canaletto veneer (Juglans nigra). The side connection is made of solid walnut canaletto, ensuring both aesthetic continuity and structural strength. Stability is provided by a metal adjuster placed under the base, equipped with a non-slip plastic tip.

The dimensions of the MHC.2/3 module are 108.3 cm in width, 68.5 cm in height, and 28.2 cm in depth, while the MHC.2/4 module measures 138.9 cm in width, 68.5 cm in height, and 28.2 cm in depth.

The brand is distinguished by innovative design, continuous research, and the adoption of advanced production techniques, supplying furnishings for museums, hotels, restaurants, and cruise ships, with collaborations from renowned designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Rodolfo Dordoni, Jean Nouvel, and Hannes Wettstein. Molteni&C received the prestigious Compasso d'Oro career award in 1994 and 2020, awarded by ADI (Association for Industrial Design). Since 2012, in collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives and under the artistic direction of Studio Cerri & Associati, it has exclusively reissued several iconic pieces by Gio Ponti, intended for private residences, special projects, or limited editions, faithfully respecting the original designs.
