Description

The D.655.1 chest of drawers by Gio Ponti features hand-painted white drawer fronts, with solid wood handles in fine essences such as mahogany, walnut, elm, and rosewood. The structure is made of elm wood, while the feet are satin-finished brass with a felt base for floor protection. The drawer interiors are finished with solid tulipwood and poplar wood, with elm veneer covering the surfaces. The design, inspired by the distinctive style of the 1950s, is crafted based on the original drawings kept in the Gio Ponti Archives.

The brand is distinguished by innovative design, continuous research, and the adoption of advanced production techniques, supplying furnishings for museums, hotels, restaurants, and cruise ships, with collaborations from renowned designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Rodolfo Dordoni, Jean Nouvel, and Hannes Wettstein. Molteni&C received the prestigious Compasso d'Oro career award in 1994 and 2020, awarded by ADI (Association for Industrial Design). Since 2012, in collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives and under the artistic direction of Studio Cerri & Associati, it has exclusively reissued several iconic pieces by Gio Ponti, intended for private residences, special projects, or limited editions, faithfully respecting the original designs.
