Description
Graduate is a suspended bookshelf with an essential and sophisticated design, conceived by Jean Nouvel as a light and flexible system. A single shelf, anchored to the wall or ceiling, serves as the supporting structure. From there, stainless steel tension cables hold wooden and aluminum shelves, creating a floating and weightless effect. The metal uprights feature graduated notches, allowing the shelves to be positioned freely with an invisible fixing system that enhances the clean, formal aesthetic of the design.
The supporting shelf is made of a honeycomb panel with an internal frame of Birch blockboard and a cardboard honeycomb core, covered in anodized aluminum sheets with a Birch plywood edge. The shelves, made of medium-density fiberboard, share the same anodized aluminum finish and plywood edge, ensuring aesthetic continuity and durability.
The wall anchoring system includes a fixing kit suitable for different types of masonry, with a minimum required thickness of 100 mm. For ceiling installation, fixing plates are provided, but the appropriate hardware must be selected based on the ceiling's structural material. When positioned in the center of a room, the fixing elements of the shelves remain visible. If the shelves are not secured to the wall, they may oscillate.
Graduate is available in different lengths, with a maximum load capacity of 120 kg for the 100 cm version, 240 kg for the 200 cm version, and 360 kg for the largest 300 cm version. Each shelf can support up to 25 kg. The support cables are sold in sets of four, and no size reductions or customizations are available.
