Designed by Vincent Van Duysen, Octave is a system of modular sofas featuring rigorous shapes. The source of Vincent Van Duysen’s inspiration for his new project are those wide skyscraper windows that offer breathtaking views over cosmopolitan megacities while comfortably seated on inviting sofas and armchairs. Blade-like extruded steel legs support the base on which rest low rectangular textile or leather upholstered backrests, of the same thickness as the cosy seat cushions. Octave offers open elements with which to create chaises longues or poufs that can be arranged alongside the composition or used as free-standing elements, also for the centre of the room.

Description

Octave, designed by Vincent Van Duysen in 2020, is a sophisticated seating system that seamlessly blends contemporary aesthetics with maximum comfort. The internal structure is crafted from solid Spruce wood (Picea abies) and particle board panels, reinforced with elastic straps to ensure durability and resilience. The structure's padding consists of high-resilience, variable-density polyurethane foam, covered with a bonded velveteen fabric.

The seat cushion features a molded polyurethane insert and sterilized down, providing ergonomic support and exceptional softness. The backrest and lumbar cushions are made of polyester fiber and sterilized down, covered in 100% cotton fabric. The headrest, made of high-resilience polyurethane foam, is covered in bonded velveteen for added comfort.

Octave stands out for its functional and aesthetic details. The integrated storage trays are made of thermo-welded steel sheeting, covered in regenerated leather available in an exclusive range of Molteni colors. The thermo-welded steel legs are coated with non-slip plastic tips to ensure stability.

Available in two depths, 95 cm and 105 cm, Octave offers a customizable seating experience to suit different spatial and comfort needs. The external upholstery is fully removable, with a selection of premium fabrics and leathers.

Molteni&C received the prestigious Compasso d'Oro career award in 1994 and 2020, awarded by ADI (Association for Industrial Design). Since 2012, in collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives and under the artistic direction of Studio Cerri & Associati, it has exclusively reissued several iconic pieces by Gio Ponti, intended for private residences, special projects, or limited editions, faithfully respecting the original designs.
