Canadian designers George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, active since 1980 in architecture, design, and graphics, designed the modular sofa system Surf for Molteni&C, following their debut with Dada and the visionary Lisola project in 2016. Drawing on their experience in the hospitality industry and exploring the nature of organic form beyond traditional approaches, Yabu Pushelberg create seats with a sinuous design and strong personality, free from formal constraints, offering high modularity and unexpected details. Ideal for residential projects or spaces dedicated to hospitality, such as hotels or offices, Surf features an integrated seat with rounded shapes, supporting slightly protruding, enveloping backrests. These characteristics make the sofa not only ergonomically perfect but also visually captivating.

Description

The structure of the Surf sofa, designed by Canadian duo George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, features an integrated seat with rounded shapes, complemented by enveloping and slightly protruding backrests. This sinuous and ergonomically designed form ensures both maximum comfort and a visually captivating aesthetic. The sturdy base is supported by a metal frame with elastic straps, while the padding is made from cold-foamed polyurethane, with shaped inserts that perfectly mold to the body's contours.

The external upholstery is removable and available in a range of fabrics, while the feet are made of plastic material. The armchair has a frame constructed from solid spruce wood combined with a composite material called Polimex, offering an optimal balance of lightness and strength. The seat is supported by elastic straps, and the inner lining is made from cotton/polyester coupled velvet.

Available in various modular configurations, the Surf sofa system offers extensive customization options, making it ideal for both residential spaces and hospitality environments.

The brand is distinguished by innovative design, continuous research, and the adoption of advanced production techniques, supplying furnishings for museums, hotels, restaurants, and cruise ships, with collaborations from renowned designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Rodolfo Dordoni, Jean Nouvel, and Hannes Wettstein. Molteni&C received the prestigious Compasso d'Oro career award in 1994 and 2020, awarded by ADI (Association for Industrial Design). Since 2012, in collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives and under the artistic direction of Studio Cerri & Associati, it has exclusively reissued several iconic pieces by Gio Ponti, intended for private residences, special projects, or limited editions, faithfully respecting the original designs.
